About EAOP/DCAC

About EAOP/DCAC

WHAT IS EAOP?

The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) is a state-wide college preparatory program sponsored by the University of California. For over 30 years, EAOP has helped students prepare for college by creating a community of young scholars and offering college-preparatory advising and academic enrichment opportunities. EAOP at UC Berkeley currently serves approximately 3,000 students from San Francisco, Contra Costa and Alameda counties.

The mission of EAOP at UC Berkeley is to prepare students from under-resourced communities for admission to colleges and universities. Priority is given to students from low-income families and/or students who will be the first in their family to go to college. Students are invited to apply during the spring of their 9th grade year.

WHAT CAN WE OFFER?

In addition to our school site services, we are able to provide opportunites off campus thanks to our university affiliation!

PRE-COLLEGE ACADEMY (PCA)

The Pre-College Academy (PCA) is a six-week college preparatory summer program hosted by EAOP at the University of California, Berkeley.  For 30 years PCA has provided intensive preparation for EAOP students enrolled in partner schools throughout the Bay Area.  PCA prepares students for their academic and professional futures by providing them with the opportunity to share in the University of California's tradition of educational excellence and diversity.  PCA prepares students for success in the following academic year, including preparation for classes that meet the University of California's and California State University's A-G subject requirements. SAT ACADEMY

The SAT Test is an important component of the college admissions process. In spring semester of their junior year EAOP students are invited to enroll in the SAT Academy, a ten week SAT preparation course.  During the SAT Academy students receive instruction in math, critical reading and writing, and test taking strategies.  They also take practice tests and learn about their test taking strengths and weaknesses by going through the results with the course instructors. SUMMER SESSIONS

The Early Academic Outreach Program offers enrollment in UC Berkeley's Summer Sessions for EAOP students going into the twelfth grade.  In addition to being enrolled in an actual UC Berkeley course, students are placed in a special EAOP discussion session and provided with a teaching assistant who guides them through the course material during the program. Summer Sessions courses are extremely rigorous, as they are fifteen-week classes compressed into six weeks.  Courses are taught by UC Berkeley professors and attended by UC undergraduates.  There are three courses available for EAOP UC Berkeley Summer Sessions.  Students are able to rank order their preferences and we try our best to place them in their first or second choice.  Past courses have included Environmental Earth Sciences, Ethnic Studies, and Greek & Roman Mythology.  Credit earned in a UC Berkeley Summer Sessions course appears on a standard UC Berkeley transcript and is transferable to many colleges and universities.
